‘Exceptional’ doctors in training recognised with RHH awards

The Royal Hobart Hospital has announced the winners of its 2022 Junior Medical Officer of the Year Awards, recognising the exceptional contributions of doctors in training to the health services in Southern Tasmania.

These awards recognise the achievements of doctors in training who have made a significant impact on the health services in the region.

Gareth, a registrar from Hobart and graduate of the University of Tasmania, was awarded Registrar of the Year.

He recently passed his physician exams and will soon begin specialist training in medical oncology.

Dallas, a resident medical officer who studied in Brisbane and worked at the Launceston General Hospital before relocating to the Royal Hobart Hospital, was awarded Resident Medical Officer of the Year.

Dallas will soon start a new placement with the Hospital in the Home team and has expressed interest in becoming a general practitioner.

Lewis, an intern from Hobart and a graduate of the University of Tasmania, was awarded Intern of the Year.

He is currently working with the Hospital at Night team and will soon start a rotation in paediatrics.

The awards were based on a doctor’s overall performance, including their communication skills, clinical judgment and skills and their relationships with staff, patients and relatives.

The Registrar of the Year was voted on by interns and resident medical officers, while Intern and Resident Medical Officer of the Year were voted on by consultants, registrars and allied health colleagues.
