Two young men killed in a crash north of Hobart are being remembered by their families as cherished partners, sons and grandsons.

20-year-old Lando Taylor and Noah Hyland, 22, died when their car collided with a ute on the East Derwent Highway at Old Beach just before midday on Tuesday.

Police said the pair were the only people in the car. Both died at the scene.

The driver of the ute was not injured but was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital as a precaution.

Taylor, a father of two, is being farewelled by loved ones who have set up a fundraiser to help cover his funeral costs.

“I am sadly now a single mum of two beautiful little girls who lost their dad,” his fiancee wrote on the fundraiser.

Taylor’s grandmother also paid tribute to her grandson.

“From the moment I first held you in my arms, my heart changed forever beautiful boy,” she said.

“Watching you grow had been one of the greatest blessings I could have ever seen.”

Hyland had become engaged to his partner in May last year.

“Words cannot describe the way that I’m feeling right now,” she said.

“Just wishing you were here with me.”

Police said it was the third fatal crash on Tasmanian roads in four days.

The state’s road toll for 2026 now sits at 16, down from 25 at the same time last year.

Police say their inquiries are continuing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
