A man has died after crashing into a power pole on Back River Road in the Derwent Valley overnight.
Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after 3am on Saturday where they found the 33-year-old had “failed to negotiate the slight right-hand bend in the road” and crashed.

Nearby residents heard the crash and rushed to help the trapped driver until emergency services arrived, however he sadly died at the scene.
Police believe “inattention and possibly fatigue” were contributing factors in the crash.
A report will be prepared for the coroner as the investigation continues.
