A New South Wales man has had his licence suspended after police allegedly caught him driving a Ferrari at 150km/h in a 110km/h zone in Tasmania’s south.

Police say the 49-year-old was detected at Brighton, north of Hobart, on Wednesday.

He was fined $905.25, given six demerit points and has been disqualified from driving for three months.

On Thursday, police allegedly caught a 61-year-old Queensland man driving a Porsche at 129km/h in a 100km/h zone at Hamilton.

Officers found a radar detector fitted to the car and seized it. The car was also missing a registration plate.

Radar and laser detectors are illegal in Tasmania and in most other Australian jurisdictions.

The man was fined a total of $1,810.50 and given three demerit points.

“Police responded to community concerns about dangerous driving displayed by some participants in a high-performance vehicle tour, as well as a recent social media post depicting reckless driving on a Tasmanian highway,” a spokesperson said.

Sergeant Scott McKinnell said more major motoring events are coming up around the state in the next few weeks.

He says participants and motoring enthusiasts should not put themselves or others at risk and that dangerous driving “will not be tolerated”.

“We will continue to target dangerous driving behaviours to ensure motorists comply with the law and prioritise safety,” Sergeant McKinnell said.

“If you’re on the roads, follow the rules and avoid distractions behind the wheel.”
