Firefighters battle bushfire threatening homes in Ravenswood, Launceston

People in the Launceston suburb of Ravenswood are being warned to prepare to leave as a ‘Watch and Act’ level bushfire burns in the area.

The Tasmania Fire Service say the fire near Prossers Forest Road is expected to be uncontrollable and may bring embers, smoke and ash to the Ravenswood area.

“The fire is travelling towards Ravenswood and Drivers Run. Conditions are expected to be changeable,” the TFS said.

“Take action now to protect yourself, your family and your home. If you are not prepared for a bushfire, be ready to leave for a safer place.”

“If you don’t live near Castlemain Road and Prossers Forrest, Ravenswood and Drover Run area, stay away.”

Tasmania Police say the fire is “threatening homes” and have closed Dromania Court, Prossers Forest Road at Blyth Street and Castlemain Road at Prossers Forest Road as a result.

Updated 7pm, Wednesday March 6: Tasmania Police have now reopened all roads in the Ravenswood area.

Firefighters remain on scene as they work to extinguish the blaze.
