One of Hobart’s biggest hotels is understood to have been evacuated this evening after a fire broke out in one of its kitchens.
Firefighters were called to the Hotel Grand Chancellor on Davey Street just after 11pm on Thursday night following reports of a “structure fire”.
According to the Tasmania Fire Service, Hobart crews discovered a fire in the kitchen that had filled the room with smoke upon their arrival.
A spokesperson said crews were busy ventilating the area at 11:25pm.
The cause of the fire is expected to undergo an investigation on Friday morning.
In October, the nearby Zero Davey Apartment Hotel was evacuated during a lightning storm after a fire broke out in a restaurant on the ground floor.
