Firefighters rush to extinguish “well alight” Midway Point house fire

A Midway Point home has been “completely destroyed” in a large inferno this afternoon.

The Tasmania Fire Service say the Penna Road property went up in flames at around 2:30pm on Sunday.

Firefighters battled thick smoke to stop the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is currently underway, with Police asking anyone that may have information into the incident to contact them.

No one was inside the home at the time.

EARLIER: Firefighters have rushed to extinguish a large, “well alight” house fire in Midway Point this afternoon.

The Penna Road blaze is believed to have started around 2:30pm and could be seen sending thick clouds of smoke into the air.

The Tasmania Fire Service told Pulse multiple crews have been dispatched to the scene after receiving  “multiple triple zero calls” of a “fire within a house”.

“Crews have arrived to confirm the house was well alight and are currently working at bringing the fire under control,” they said.
