A ‘potentially disastrous’ incident was narrowly avoided at a Sorell petrol station in the early hours of this morning after a display sign caught fire.
Four firefighters from the Midway Point-Sorell Fire Brigade were called to the scene to tackle the fire that was a ‘bit close to the bowsers.’

After extinguishing the blaze, the crew were able to use a thermal imaging camera to rule out potential hot-spots – thoroughly dousing the vegetation and pine bark surrounding the sign.
The cause of the fire is not known.
