Additional firefighting resources have been called in after part of a registered burn south of Wynyard broke through its containment lines.
The large blaze near Mount Hicks has sent a plume of thick smoke into the air that can be seen across the north-west coast.

The Tasmania Fire Service says crews have just arrived at the scene and are working with the private forestry company behind the burn-off to get the blaze under control.
