The latest Tasmanian Trout fishing season has started today, with anglers expected to be out in force fishing in lakes, rivers and streams across the state despite recent bad weather.
The Derwent and Huon Rivers are predicted to fish well early in the season, boosted by the rain leading up to opening weekend.
Other rivers like Tyenna, Plenty, Styx, and Lachlan are also expected to be successful for fishing.
Anglers using baits like worms and wattle grubs, as well as lure anglers spinning and trolling, can expect a good catch.
The New Norfolk Licensed Anglers Association has already begun their first competition on the Derwent River, right on opening time at 12am.
The Inland Fisheries Service will monitor compliance during the opening weekend, reminding anglers to have their licences and safety equipment in order.
Marine and Safety Tasmania ask all boaties to wear a lifejacket, tell someone where they are going and when they will return and to check the weather.
“Have a great weekend, catch a few fish and come home safely.”
