Five people have been arrested and four charged following an alleged home invasion and a string of storage shed break-ins across Tasmania’s north-west coast.
A 16-year-old boy, a 24-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were taken into custody at an Ulverstone property on Monday morning following reports of a break-in.
Officers were called to a nearby home in West Ulverstone just after 6:40am after items were allegedly stolen and the resident, who was known to the trio, assaulted.
The group are also facing charges over the alleged burglary of several storage sheds in Somerset on the same day.
“Police conducted a search at the Ulverstone address and located property believed to be stolen from the storage sheds,” a spokesperson said.
“Investigations indicated a fourth person was involved with the burglaries and a 36-year-old man from Shorewell was then arrested, with further reportedly stolen property located at the premises.”
A woman was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon and is “assisting police with their inquiries”.
Police allege the woman was in possession of a silver Toyota C-HR that had previously been reported stolen.
The car has since been recovered by police.
All four people charged appeared in the Burnie Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
