Five P-plate drivers were caught drink-driving in a single night during a police blitz on Hobart’s Tasman Highway, despite being legally required to record a zero alcohol reading.
Tasmania Police intercepted 740 drivers during a high-visibility traffic operation on Saturday night.
Six drivers in total were found to be over the 0.05 breath alcohol limit. Five of them were P-platers.
One P-plate driver recorded a reading of 0.121 and was immediately disqualified from driving for 12 months.
The operation also caught three drivers with illicit drugs in their system and two people in possession of drugs. Three passengers were not wearing seatbelts.

“Please be responsible when driving. If you plan on drinking, have a plan for how you will get home safely,” police said.
“If you drink alcohol or take drugs and then drive, you are not only putting other road users at risk, you are also putting yourself at risk.”
“Take the risk and your licence you will miss.”
