Knife-wielding man allegedly threatens staff, customers in bottle shop robbery attempt

Five people have been taken into custody following an incident at a Shorewell Park bottle shop in Burnie where staff and customers were allegedly threatened with a knife.

Police arrested four men and a woman after a series of events that began at the BWS bottle shop on Wiseman Street shortly after 1:30pm today.

Authorities allege a man entered the store and threatened both staff and customers with a knife while attempting to steal items from the premises.

After leaving briefly, the man allegedly returned with four accomplices who caused damage to the store before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

The group allegedly evaded police before officers located and arrested all five suspects at a Shorewell Park address around 3:10pm, approximately 90 minutes after the initial incident.

Tasmania Police confirmed no one was physically injured during the confrontation.

Police are now calling for public assistance, asking anyone with information about the matter to come forward.

“Anyone with information about the incident should contact Burnie Police on 131 444 and quote ESCAD240-10112025,” a police spokesperson said.
