The rumble of motorcycle engines echoed across Hobart today as thousands of riders took part in the 46th annual MRA South Toy Run, bringing Christmas cheer to families in need.
The popular charity event saw motorcyclists gather at MyState Bank Arena before departing at 12:30pm and arriving at Parliament Lawns and Princes Wharf 1 around 12:45pm, where Salvation Army volunteers stood ready to receive donations.
For the first time, Jetski Tas Inc joined the festivities by water.
MRA South President Jarrod Doyle said the event is a show of the generosity of Tasmania’s riding community.
“The goodwill and generosity of everyone taking part gives The Salvation Army the opportunity to bring hope to families right across Tasmania,” Doyle said.
The Salvation Army’s Amelia Natoli said the event has a significant impact on local families experiencing hardship.
“Last year, donations from the MRA South Toy Run helped the Salvos assist over 1,500 families, including gifts for 2,428 children at Christmas. We’re incredibly grateful for this generosity,” Natoli said.
The need remains high this festive season, with organisers particularly requesting gifts for older children aged 12-16, non-perishable food items, store gift cards and family-friendly items.
