Five teenagers are facing charges for allegedly lighting around 20 deliberate fires around New Norfolk in the last month.

The young boys reportedly lit nine of the fires in just three days in late March.

Police said garbage bins, a vehicle and vegetation were all set alight on High Street, Pioneer Avenue, Circle Street, George Street and Back River Road.

The group, aged 14, 15, 16, 16 and 17, are from New Norfolk, Gagebrook and Bridgewater.

The charges include unlawfully setting fire to property, unlawfully setting fire to vegetation and improper use of emergency carriage service.

The teenagers will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court under the Youth Justice Act at a later date.
