Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain is on the way for much of the north-west and central north regions of Tasmania this afternoon, with the State Emergency Service urging locals to get prepared.
“Between 30 and 50mm of rain is possible in some areas which has potential for flash flooding and hazardous driving conditions,” the SES say.
“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.”
“Locations which may be affected include Sheffield, Deloraine and Scottsdale.”
The rest of the state may experience light showers and isolated storms.
Residents should supervise children, inform family, friends and neighbours about the weather warnings.
People should also secure outdoor items like furniture and play equipment and beware of damaged trees and power lines.
