A new set of stairs has made access to the iconic Flinders Island Trousers Point Beach a whole lot easier for locals and tourists.
The stairs were built as part of a $1.1 million state government commitment to support the island’s tourism industry and were constructed alongside another set at Fotheringate Bay.
Parks Minister Nick Duigan also confirmed that the refurbishment of the North East River toilet is part of the ongoing upgraded tourism facilities project and is nearing completion.
“Providing access to these areas for visitors is very important for ensuring that these places can drive our regional tourism economy on Flinders Island,” Duigan said.

“Flinders Island has a growing tourism economy, being driven by its beauty and remoteness, as well as its growing market of boutique tourism offerings.”
Options for further upgrades will also be identified through surveys at the North East River, Trousers Point campgrounds and the Emita/Allports day use area and campground next month.
“These surveys will assist in identifying improvements to access, parking, drainage, toilets and campground layout and levelling,” Duigan said.
