Fly-past, gunfire breakfasts and dawn marches: Tasmania to mark Anzac Day

Anzac Day will be marked at more than 60 services across Tasmania tomorrow on the 111th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.

The earliest dawn service starts at 5:30am in Yolla at the football club rooms, while the earliest march steps off at 5:20am in Wynyard, where veterans will form up at the RSL sub-branch before heading to the War Memorial.

Dawn services at Deloraine, Sheffield, Beaconsfield, Bicheno, Dunalley and Sorell will begin at 5:45am, with Oatlands and St Helens holding pre-dawn marches at the same time before their 6am services.

In Hobart, the Dawn Service will be held at 6am at the Cenotaph on Queens Domain.

The main parade will step off down Elizabeth Street at 11am, followed by the civic service at 11:45am.

A fly-past by No. 36 Squadron of the Royal Australian Air Force is scheduled for 12pm.

Launceston’s Dawn Service also begins at 6am at the Paterson Street Cenotaph.

The March of Remembrance will form up at the corner of Elizabeth and Charles Streets at 9:45am and step off at 10:15am, with the civic service starting at about 10:30am.

Other major regional services include Devonport at 6am at the Victoria Parade Cenotaph and Burnie at 6am at the Burnie Cenotaph.

Bass Strait communities will also take part. King Island’s service begins at 6am at the Currie Cenotaph, followed by a gunfire breakfast at the King Island Club for $10 a head.

Flinders Island will hold its dawn service at 6am at Emita, with the main service at 11am at the Whitemark Arts and Entertainment Centre.

Bruny Island residents will gather at the Alonnah Memorial at 6am.

Latrobe’s dawn march at 5:50am will pass the Teddy Sheean VC Memorial, honouring the Tasmanian sailor posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions aboard HMAS Armidale in 1942.

Lenah Valley will host an Anzac Day in the Park event for children from 10am at John Turnbull Park.

Gunfire breakfasts will also be served at Penguin, Zeehan, South Arm and Primrose Sands.
