The former Mayor of Burnie, Steven Kons, has resigned from his position on the council.
The departure of Kons, who served as Mayor on three separate occasions, marks a “moment of change” for the Burnie City Council – the council said in a statement.
“We acknowledge his years of service and leadership and wish him well as he moves forward with his personal and professional commitments,” the statement read.
The council said it would provide updates on how the vacancy will be filled “in due course”.
Kons’ resignation follows the resignation of former Victoria Police Commissioner Simon Overland, who announced plans to leave his role as the council’s general manager in June.
Overland joined the council in 2019 under Kons’ leadership and will depart the council in November.
