Sorell’s former police station is set to go under the hammer, offering a rare chance to live in a converted police facility.
The disused station at 8 Somerville Street sits on a 1,876 square metre block and includes a main office building with a reception area, multiple offices, a kitchen and a bathroom.
An adjoining building connected by a covered walkway serves as a three-bedroom home with a kitchen, bathroom and laundry.
The property also features a large double-storey shed and 14 undercover car parks.

Next door, a red brick house at 10 Somerville Street on an 1,148 square metre block will go under the hammer on the same day.
A newly built facility on the Tasman Highway now serves as Sorell’s police headquarters.

Selling agent Jerome Thiessen of Harcourts Signature Rosny Park said the site had already attracted plenty of enquiries as it is zoned general business and could also be turned into a residence.
Thiessen said selling former police stations isn’t something he does every day, but it’s not entirely new ground either.
“I’ve sold police stations before,” he told Pulse.
“I sold the Bellerive Police Station … was the last one.”

The auctions for both Sorell properties are scheduled for 12:30pm on Friday May 1.
