Four elected Hobart City Councillors are vying for the role of Deputy Lord Mayor after the position became vacant.

The role has been open since the state election after former Deputy Mayor Helen Burnet was elected to state parliament.

Louise Bloomfield, Zelinda Sherlock, Marti Zucco and Will Coats will all contest the vice-leadership position.

One of them will be elected following a secret ballot in a council meeting on Monday.

“Each elected member, whether a candidate or not, will receive a ballot paper listing all candidates in alphabetical order,” a council spokesperson said.

“Voting will be done by secret ballot, with each elected member selecting one candidate. Votes will be counted in a separate room, with a scrutineer present.”

If no candidate receives a majority of votes with more than two candidates, the candidate with the lowest vote total will be eliminated.

A new ballot will then be held with the remaining candidates. In case of a tie between two or more candidates, a drawing will determine who is excluded.
