Four teenagers hospitalised after car crashes into rock wall

Four teenagers are in hospital after a car crashed into a rock wall in Tasmania’s north, with police are now appealing for the driver to come forward.

An 18-year-old woman suffered serious injuries in the single-vehicle crash on Lilydale Road at Underwood on Saturday night.

Three other teenagers were also hurt. All four were taken to the Launceston General Hospital by ambulance.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 8pm on Saturday, around five kilometres north of Rocherlea.

“Initial investigations indicate a blue Subaru Impreza was travelling south on Lilydale Road at speed before leaving the roadway and impacting a rock wall after negotiating a slight right-hand bend,” police said.

“The vehicle came to rest in the middle of the roadway.”

Lilydale Road was closed for about four hours while crash investigators examined the scene.

Police said blood samples were taken from the occupants for alcohol and drug testing as part of the investigation.

“Police are urging the driver or anyone with information about the crash to contact police,” a spokesperson said.
