Four teenage boys have been charged with common assault over an alleged attack on two people at a Devonport food outlet earlier this week.

Police were called to a disturbance at the outlet on Best Street on Monday, where a group is alleged to have assaulted a male youth and a woman in her mid-30s.

Both were assessed for injuries but did not need hospital treatment.

Police said investigations during the week, including analysis of CCTV footage, led to charges against three 16-year-old boys and a 15-year-old boy.

Each has been charged with two counts of common assault and was bailed with conditions.

Tasmania Police said it was aware of community concerns about recent anti-social behaviour and alleged unlawful activity in the Devonport area.

The organisation said it was addressing the issues through regular patrols and “intelligence-led investigations”.

Alleged offending in the area was “not limited to youths”, police said and officers had identified various persons of interest.

Police urged people to report illegal and anti-social behaviour so officers could respond, rather than “take matters into their own hands”.

“The safety of all persons is of paramount importance,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.

Police are also aware of social media posts about recent incidents, some containing what they described as “graphic and threatening content”.

Members of the public are being encouraged not to publish or share the material and to consider the “potential trauma” to those involved and the wider community.
