The Tasmania Fire Service is urgently asking all people within 150m of a gas leak at a property on Invermay Road to evacuate now.
Residents near 18 Rooms Avenue in Launceston are being asked to leave immediately and to stay away.
“Exposure to this material will present an immediate danger to people in the Rooms Avenue, Invermay area,” the TFS say.
“If you are away from home, do not try to return to the area. Non-residents should stay away from the affected areas.”
The leak was reported around 9:20AM on Friday, with residents receiving evacuation advice via text shortly after.
Invermay Road between Foster Street and Main Street has been closed as a result of the incident.
UPDATE 11:30AM: The gas leak has since been fixed, with people now able to return to the area.
