A man who was allegedly shot in the chest in George Town on Thursday morning remains in a stable condition in intensive care.
The 40-year-old was allegedly fired at outside an address on Davidson Street just before 4am on Thursday.
Acting Inspector Jason Jones said the victim, initially reported to be in his 20s, then went to a Davies Street address to seek assistance.
“He … will likely be taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for ongoing care,” Jones said.
“Initial investigations indicate the offender and victim are known to each other and this is an isolated incident with no risk to the broader community.”
A 45-year-old man from the Launceston suburb of Prospect has been arrested and taken into custody.
“The man has not yet been charged and detectives and local police are still conducting investigations at George Town,” Jones said.
“From searches that have occurred today in the George Town area, several stolen firearms have been located in the vehicle that’s assigned to the alleged offender.”
“Police, including detectives, remain at the scene gathering evidence.”
“Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.”
Earlier: A man has been rushed to hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper body following a “firearm incident” in George Town in the early hours of this morning.
Police were called to a Davies Street address just before 4am on Thursday by a neighbour who reportedly heard the incident unfold.
Emergency services found the man they say is in his 20s with a gunshot wound and transported him to the Launceston General Hospital.
He is currently in a stable condition, police said.
The alleged offender, believed to be a man in his 40s, is accused of fleeing the scene.
He was located at a property in George Town around 7am and arrested.
“Investigations are continuing, however Initial investigations indicate the offender and victim are known to each other,” police said.
