The Great Escape NYE Festival sold out half its capacity in just 40 minutes after pre-sale tickets went live this week.
Marketing manager Liam Meagher said the response had been overwhelming ahead of the seventh edition of the festival, which returns to Redbanks in Nugent from December 29 to January 1.
“It was a pretty incredible situation to be in,” Meagher told Pulse.
General sale tickets went on sale at 8am on Friday and Meagher said a full sellout is likely within days.
“Realistically I think it’s only been gonna be a couple of days until we actually sell out the whole festival,” he said.
This year marks the first time the festival will run across three full days, expanding from a format that previously included a shorter “day zero” pre-party.
“A lot of people were just like, ‘You know, we want to be able to be down there at Red Banks for three full days,’ and we made sure that we could really curate that lineup to fully extend that time,” Meagher said.
The lineup features 15 Tasmanian-based or Tasmanian-origin artists among its 35 acts, something Meagher said was a major drawcard.
Ocean Alley, Ball Park Music and Golden Features headline the bill, alongside Kaninna, Tones and I, Lastlings, Mallrat, Old Mervs, Partiboi69 and Slowly Slowly.
Meagher said the festival had shifted its curation this year to include more DJs alongside live bands.
He said a lot of the early feedback was that punters were looking forward to seeing Bruny Island native Kaninna perform.
“I think honestly the standout that I’ve just been talking to everyone is on Miss Kaninna and everything that she’s just absolutely blowing up in in Australia and internationally at the moment,” he said.
Beyond the rapid ticket sales, Meagher said the result reflected a growing loyalty among festival-goers.
“It’s come to be a bit of a new staple, which we’re so grateful for,” he said.
