Police have seized seven guns, including three which have been confirmed as stolen, along with methamphetamine and cannabis from a Southern Tasmania home.
Officers carried out a search warrant at a large residential property and nearby bushland in Dromedary on Thursday where they seized “stolen firearms, [a] large quantity of illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia,” Detective Acting Sergeant Sam Storer said.
Around 1.7kgs of cannabis, 3.7g of methylamphetamine, a significant amount of ammunition, pharmaceutical glassware, cash and a large quantity of jewellery, which is believed to be stolen, was found alongside firearms.
Storer said a 64-year-old man has been charged with unlawful trafficking in firearms and controlled substances following the operation.
“We will continue to target and hold accountable those involved in the illicit drug and firearm trade,” Storer warned.
“I urge anyone with information about illegal firearms to come forward – your information can help police to remove these items from our streets.”
“For anyone that has an illegal or unregistered firearm, there is a permanent amnesty in Tasmania and unregistered or unwanted firearms can be handed in to police or licenced firearms dealers without any action being taken in relation to possession offences.”
The man will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court today.
