Helicopter searching Hobart's northern suburbs for elderly man missing since midday

Updated 5pm, Wednesday July 24: Police have located the missing man and say he is “safe and well”.

It is understood he was found in the vicinity of the Cadbury factory with assistance from a member of the public.

Earlier: Police have launched a mass-search for an elderly man with a medical condition last seen in the Claremont area earlier today.

79-year-old Dennis Spurling was last seen around midday on Wednesday and concerns are held for his welfare.

A large contingent of police officers are combing the area both on foot and from the air, with authorities saying Spurling may be disoriented.

He was last seen wearing cream-coloured pants, a cream-coloured jumper and a shirt.

Anyone with information on Spurling’s whereabouts is asked to contact Glenorchy Police on 131 444.
