The owners of a recently re-opened Hobart waterfront pub have gone to the city council to ask for an extension to their operating hours.
Built in the 1850’s, the Telegraph Hotel on Morrison Street re-opened under the management of the Australian Venue Co in September 2022.
One of the key features of the $5 million renovation of the waterfront icon was its rooftop terrace overlooking the Derwent River.
But as of now the rooftop terrace and bar, which opens at 12pm, must close by 11pm due to a condition limiting its trading hours.
While the venue have been following the rules to date, they’d now like to extend their closing time to 12am, aligning it with the existing operational hours of the venue’s first and ground levels, which operate from 12pm to 1am.
“The proposed amendment to the rooftop operating hours will form a positive addition to the existing Telegraph Hotel and will enhance the activation of the area,” reads the application for the adjustment.
“The proposal is considered to be consistent with the relevant policy objectives and requirements of the Sullivan’s Cove Planning Scheme and will not unreasonably impact the amenity of surrounding landowners.”
“We consider that approval of this proposal will provide a positive outcome for the site and surrounding area.”
The proposal is currently out for consultation with the City of Hobart until early March.
