Family fun at a popular Christmas display in central Hobart has been saved, after Council was able to successfully mediate a resolution to a neighbourhood feud.

Last week, Pulse reported that Johnny’s Christmas Light Display on Molle Street would be forced to ditch its snow machine, following a complaint from a ‘concerned citizen’.

On Thursday December 14, display creator Giancarlo ‘Johnny’ Rigoli took to social media to share the news that they might not be able to use their snow machine again.

“Unfortunately we had the council knock on the door this morning about a noise complaint in regards to the snow machines,” he said.

“I’m sad to say we won’t be using the snow machines until further notice”.

City of Hobart Acting Connected City Director Felicity Edwards said a council officer deemed the snow machine to be “too noisy for night time use” following a complaint.

Now, Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds says the complainant has since agreed to a new curfew.

“The snow machine will now operate until 9pm each weekday and until 11pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Christmas Eve), which has both satisfied Johnny and the nearby resident”.

Reynolds said Johnny’s Christmas lights display has become one of the “must-see attractions” in the lead up to Christmas and has grown hugely in popularity.

“As such, the City is keen to work with Johnny in the future to ensure public safety and family entertainment can work hand in hand to deliver even more festive spirit to Hobart,” she told Pulse.

People visiting the Molle St display are urged to urged to take extra special care when parking or driving past the lights, especially with so many children in attendance.
