Hobart has once again been identified as the national hotspot for the use of multiple drugs, according to waste water analysis.
The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission’s latest analysis of wastewater, based on samples taken at 55 sites across the country, captured 14.1 million Australians, or 55% of the population.
It found that Tasmania had the highest estimated average capital city consumption of MDMA, cannabis, nicotine, oxycodone and fentanyl.
Methylamphetamine use in some sites measured across the state was found to be below average, while alcohol consumption decreased in regional parts of Tasmania.
The report showed a national increase in average consumption of alcohol, meth, oxycodone, and ketamine, and decreases in the average consumption of heroin, MDMA and fentanyl.
