Two female employees of Tasmania’s Big Bash League team have been fined after a video of one of them riding in the back of a team-branded ute on a highway was posted on social media.
The woman was caught on dashcam riding in the rear of the Hobart Hurricanes ute as it merged onto the Tasman Highway while attempting to hold onto a rope or strap securing a large box.
Tasmania Police launched an investigation after becoming aware of the video, which is believed to have been taken in October 2023.
The two women from Warrane, aged 28 and 31, have since been issued with infringement notices.
The driver received a fine of $438.75 and three demerit points, while the passenger riding in the tray was fined $390.

Cricket Tasmania has refused to confirm if the women are players for the Hobart Hurricanes Women’s League and has said that the matter was addressed with the employees.
Cricket Tasmania has chosen not to disclose further details about any actions taken against the employees and considers the incident ‘dealt with’.
