The Hobart Ironman 70.3 event attracted over 3,000 visitors and generated more than $4.5 million in economic activity over the weekend.
The inaugural 113 km race, held on Sunday, saw over 1,200 athletes gather along the Hobart waterfront, with 70% of the participants coming from outside Tasmania.
Minister of Hospitality and Events, Nic Street, said the event brought an estimated $2 million in economic benefits to Tasmania and confirmed that the state government will support the event for the next four years.
The Ironman organizers reported that they couldn’t have hoped for better weather or conditions to showcase the racecourse to the athletes and the local community.

Tasmanian Jake Birtwhistle took out the men’s top spot with a time of 03:49:20, while Ellie Salthouse came out on top as female champion at 04:25:07.
The athletes were cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters, who came out in large numbers to show their support for the competitors across the city.
