Hobart kayaker winched to safety off Seven Mile Beach

A rescue operation has saver a kayaker that got into trouble while kayaking off the coast of Seven Mile Beach this evening.

Police say the man had fallen out of his kayak and was struggling in the water, approximately 2 kilometres from the shore.

In response to the distress call Police dispatched a helicopter to the scene, with the aerial team able to locate the kayaker and airlift him to safety.

The man was then transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital, where he received medical attention for the effects of exposure.

Fortunately, the kayaker had been wearing a life jacket, which helped him stay afloat until the rescue team arrived.
