Hobart’s Bidencopes Lane project has won the Bronze award in the Best Street Art Laneway category at the Australian Street Art Awards this week.

The City of Hobart say the laneway project has transformed a once dull and vandalised laneway into a constantly changing outdoor gallery and tourist destination.

“Once a place that was regularly “greyed out” in an effort to remove unwanted tagging, this laneway has now been transformed into a place where art is layered over art in a constantly changing outdoor gallery.”

“Along with commissioned and invited works painted within festivals and paint jams, the laneway also hosts a permission wall where artists can register through an online system to paint legally during the day.”

“This opportunity has broadened the options for people who want to explore walls as a canvas and allowed local artists to build their skills.”
