Hobart has emerged as the leader in hotel occupancy rates among Australian capital cities in recent years, according to new data.

The figures from Ray White reveal that Hobart recorded a hotel occupancy rate of over 80% in 2022, the highest among all capital cities.

Even this year, Hobart continues to maintain its lead, with the rate just below 80%.

The average price of hotel rooms in Hobart has also increased, rising from the 2022 average of $200 per night.

The Gold Coast took the top sport as the most expensive accommodation destination, with an average rate of $282.18 per night.

Vanessa Rader, Head of Research at Ray White Commercial said despite many households tightening their belts, holidaying has remained a high priority for many Australians.

“Busy tourism locations such as Hobart and Darwin have shown some slowing after a busy 2022 period which saw travellers opt to explore domestically with rules and uncertainties around international travel continuing,” she said.
