A Hobart mother has been caught ‘illegally’ riding an e-scooter with her daughter in the city this morning, raising concerns about safety and prompting a warning from E-Scooter hire company Beam.
City of Hobart Councillor Louise Elliott took to social media to share her frustration after witnessing the dangerous activity on the corner of Liverpool and Barrack Street.
“I watched them get on (I was too far away to say anything) and looked like they’d definitely done this before,” she said.
The incident has raised concerns about public safety, prompting Beam, the e-scooter rental company pictured, to emphasize its commitment to enforcing safety rules and penalties.

Beam say the image of the rider is “clearly in breach of two Tasmanian Government regulations, namely riding with a passenger and not wearing a helmet”.
Tasmania Police have the authority to fine riders for such offences when detected.

Beam say they have implemented a stringent ‘3-strikes’ policy for rule violations.
“A first offence results in a reminder of correct behavior, a second offense leads to further reminders, and a third offense results in account suspension,” a Beam spokesperson told Pulse.
“More serious offences, such as intoxicated and/or dangerous riding are dealt with on a case-by-case basis and may result in immediate suspension”.
Beam encourages the public to report safety violations to both Tasmania Police and the relevant E-Scooter hire company (Beam or Neuron), saying community involvement is crucial for maintaining safety standards.
