A Hobart restaurant owner is feeling the impact of the collapse of the Karen’s Diner restaurant chain, which she says has left her $6,000 out of pocket.
Megan Ma, owner of Tasty Korea Chicken in North Hobart, said she was approached by Karen’s Diner to host a “Karen’s on Tour” event at her restaurant earlier this year.
Ma provided the venue and food for the ticketed event, expecting to be paid afterwards.
However, just days after the event took place, Karen’s Diner filed for liquidation, leaving Ma with a ‘significant financial loss’.

“Unfortunately, this has had an impact on our business as we were not informed about the situation until 16 days after the announcement was made,” Ma wrote online.
“As a result, we are facing challenges due to inflationary pressures but remain determined to continue operating our restaurant smoothly.”
Ma apologised to her customers and thanked them for their support.
“Rest assured, we are committed to providing you with the same high-quality service and dining experience you have come to expect from us.”
In June, Launceston’s Iron Horse Bar and Grill owner also said she was still awaiting payment for hosting the controversial dining experience in April.
