Hobart speedway driver in induced coma after serious crash

A Hobart speedway driver has been left in a serious condition after a serious crash during the first lap of a race last night.

The 34-year-old competitor has been left with serious head and neck injuries after the incident at the Hobart Speedway around 9:15pm on Saturday.

Police say the man was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital where he is currently in a serious but stable condition.

In a post on Facebook, the sister of the injured driver said her brother was left in a critical condition immediately after the crash.

“He is in an induced coma, he is undergoing tests on his brain to see if there is any bleeding, if there is he will be taken straight the theatre.”

Police are continuing to investigate and Workplace safety has been notified.
