A coroner has described the 2017 execution of a Hobart man as an “ambush” that involved premeditation and planning.
47-year-old tattoo artist Dwayne ‘Doc’ Davies was fatally shot in the head and upper back with a shotgun by his close friend Bradley Scott Purkiss on May 26, 2017.
Coroner Simon Cooper said Purkiss killed Davies after luring him to his home at Elderslie under the pretext of discussing the potential purchase of a motorcycle, later taking his body to a remote property at Levendale and burying it.
He said the murder was at the instigation of Davis’ wife, Margaret Ann Otto, who was having an affair with Percuss.
A week after the murder, Davies’ body was discovered in a “shallow grave”, wrapped in plastic, with multiple gunshot wounds.
Both Purkiss and Otto were jailed over the crime in 2017, with Otto released on parole after having her murder conviction quashed in 2022.
She was re-sentenced for being an accessory after the fact.
Purkiss was sentenced to 24 years in prison and will only become eligible for parole in 2031, 14 years after being locked up.
