Hobart-based appliance store Elite Appliances has been placed into liquidation, catching both staff and industry insiders by surprise.
The closure was confirmed through an Australian Investment and Securities Commission statement earlier this week.
Hobart-based financial consultancy Apex Advisory has been appointed as liquidator.
“Notice is given that at a general meeting of the members of the Company held on 30 June 2025, it was resolved that the Company be wound up and that Adam Johnston be appointed liquidator(s),” the ASIC statement read.

Staff reportedly only learned of the closure when the liquidator arrived at 8:30am on Monday, instructing them to leave the premises and return their keys.
The businesses website was taken offline shortly after, with emails sent by customers – seen by Pulse – also bouncing back.

The business is listed as being temporarily closed on Google.
Elite Appliances was established in November 1999 to offer premium appliances and bathroomware to the Tasmanian market.
The family-owned business had grown from three initial staff members to 12 as of July 2021.
The amount of money owing to creditors, including suppliers and customers, has not yet been revealed.
