A young girl has been arrested after allegedly stealing several parcels from the Battery Point area in broad daylight.
The thefts occurred around 2pm on Wednesday and likely involved packages containing Christmas presents.
Police said the girl, who age was not released, was found in possession of two parcels she is accused of taking.
A man believed to have been with the girl at the time managed to flee the scene and police are asking for the public’s help to track him down.
They are appealing for information or CCTV of suspicious people or activity in the Marieville Esplanade to Waterloo Crescent areas between 2pm and 3pm.
The incident comes as the holiday season approaches, with police urging people to take extra precautions to keep their homes and deliveries secure.
“If you’re shopping online, have parcels delivered to a safe and secure location,” they said.
“Avoid leaving parcels on doorsteps or in unlocked mailboxes. Keep gifts away from windows where they can be seen from the street.”
“If you notice anything suspicious, report it to police.”
