Hoodoo Gurus frontman Dave Faulkner says the band are “having a moment” as they prepare to take to the Taste of Summer stage tonight for New Year’s Eve.
Faulkner told Pulse the band have been performing to “capacity crowds” at shows around the country celebrating the 40th anniversary of their debut album, Stoneage Romeos.
“We won’t be doing that exact whole album [tonight], but we are going to play a good chunk of it for those people that want to hear us play those songs,” he said.
“So you’ll hear most of that album as well as a bunch of our, obviously, well-known songs that people really want to hear as well.”
“You’ll see us at the top of our game. We always give a pretty good account of ourselves, but I’ve got to say, right now, we’re just really hitting a new level.”
“[We’re] the Hoodoo Gurus. What else is there above us? I mean, there’s Cold Chisel. I mean, we’re kind of some of the last bands standing.”
The Hoodoo Gurus will take to the stage at the Taste of Summer at 10pm, after the kids fireworks display at 9pm.
Stephen McMullen, CEO of Pinpoint Group – the consortium behind The Taste, says they had another 12,000 people through the second day of the event on Sunday.
“[We’re] really happy with the first two days. The crowds have had a great time.”
“The stallholders are ecstatic with the way that it’s going. The weather’s held out. We’re into the good weather now, and it’s really the power time of the Taste coming forward now.”
The Taste of Summer will be free between 12 – 4 pm today, before the sold out New Years Eve event in the evening.
