Written and directed by Tasmanian filmmaker Jonathan auf der Heide, alongside local playwright Tom Holloway, Devil Inside will tell the story of a young couple who discover that the Tasmanian devil facial tumour disease has jumped species and threatens the fate of the human race.

In the film, Caitlin Stasey portrays Eva, a youthful virologist who aids Kwanten’s character, a park ranger, in studying a contagious cancer that has decimated almost 90% of the population.

However, after Eva’s spouse is bitten by a stray dog, she begins to suspect that the virus has undergone a mutation, enabling it to jump between species and causing aggressive behavior in its hosts.

The film is expected to highlight Tasmania’s natural beauty and unique wildlife, with filming set to take place in some of the state’s most remote and rugged areas.

Tasmanian locals will also be heavily involved in the production, with many working behind the scenes as part of the crew.
