Warm weather across Tasmania has sent snakes out in force today, with local catchers responding to a number of calls around the state.
North Taz Reptile Relocation say they pulled a tiger snake from a dog pen in Beauty Point on Friday (as shown in the left image).
Following the snake intrusion, two dogs were taken to the vet for examination.
Cody from the relocation business said it’s ‘important to watch the snakes movements’ while maintaining a safe distance and waiting for a professional catcher.
“This increases the chances of the snake being caught greatly,” he wrote in a post online.
In a separate incident, a resident in Bagdad shared a photo of two snakes twisted around one another on his driveway this afternoon (as seen in the right image).
Australian Reptile Park Keeper Brandon Gifford says snake season typically begins around October and November and that most snakebites occur when people attempt to catch or kill snakes.
“By doing neither of those things, you are drastically reducing your chances of having a negative interaction with one of our famous Aussie snakes,” Gifford said.
“By mowing your lawn, getting rid of any timber or sheets of tin they might see as a home, is the most important step to making sure you don’t have snakes in your backyard.”
“Whatever you do, do not try and catch the snake yourself.”
