240 people packed into Hobart’s MAC2 event shed overnight for an eight-hour lullaby by American artist Max Richter, as part of Dark Mofo.

Tickets for the event cost $249 each, with all 240 spots quickly selling out after going on-sale in April.

Attendees were given a camp bed, two pillows and a warm blanket on arrival, while some Hobart locals brought their own pillows and doonas to brace the cold weather.

Created in partnership with artist Yulia Mahr and drawing inspiration from ‘the neuroscience of sleep’, the event consisted of a total of 31 variations, varying in length from under three minutes to over thirty minutes.

Richter’s mesmerizing SLEEP performances have previously taken place in renowned venues like the Sydney Opera House, Philharmonie de Paris, and Grand Park in Los Angeles.

The ‘adult lullaby’ was broadcast live on local community radio station Edge Radio, who’s online stream reportedly crashed with the amount of people trying to experience Richter’s performance from home.
