The Huon Valley is set to put their best foot forward again for mental health with the now-annual Hilltop Hike.

Following the event’s huge success in 2022, this year’s event is promising another day of community unity and purpose.

Originating from the tragic loss of young lives to suicide, the Hilltop Hike aims to shine a spotlight on youth mental health and suicide prevention in the Huon Valley.

Organisers say it’s not just a climb up Huonville’s Scenic Hill, but a united front of local community, businesses, and families championing the cause.

Last year’s efforts raised $67,648, all of which flowed into local mental health services and training.

This year’s goal is set at $100,000, aiming to bolster the Huon Valley Police and Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) Drop-In Centre.

The centre, currently operating once a week, provides high school students with a safe space – including snacks, and recreational activities. The community hopes to extend the centre’s availability to five days a week as a result of the funds raised from the Hike.

Teams & participants are being encouraged to register now and jump-in on competitions, from fundraising challenges to costume contests.

Post-hike, the PCYC will host a celebratory lunch, prize distribution, and opportunities to engage with mental health professionals.
