A Richmond man had more than four times the legal alcohol limit in his blood when he slammed into a power pole and wrote off his car this afternoon.
The 44-year-old driver was the sole occupant of the RAV4 when he crashed on Brinktop Road on Friday.
Police at the scene told Pulse the crash caused power lines to fall, before catching fire and knocking out power to around 30 nearby homes.
The man was charged after a breath analysis test returned a result of 0.208.
He will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on October 9.
EARLIER: Police are asking motorists are asked to avoid the area between the Tasman Highway and Penna Road until the scene is cleared.
The extent of the crash is not yet understood, but Police say no serious injuries have been reported.
The speed limit of Brinktop Road was reduced to 80km/h in June 2022 after a ‘steady increase in traffic’ and a rise in crashes.
