An elderly Kingston grandmother was reportedly forced to hide in a cupboard late on Sunday night after a man allegedly attempted to break into her home.

The woman’s grandson has warned neighbours of the incident on social media, saying he was alerted to the intruder by a security system and managed to ‘yell at the guy’ through an app.

“The door to her enclosed patio was taken off its hinges and he tried to get in through her back door,” he said in a post.

“My grandmother is ok but quite shaken as we’d called her and told her to hide in the cupboard until I could get to her.”

Police say no incident of the description had been formally reported, but confirmed three offenders have recently been charged with burglary matters in the Kingston area.
