Invermay crash leads to drug trafficking charge over 200g of ice

A Launceston man has been charged with drug trafficking and firearms offences after police went to a car crash and allegedly found around 200 grams of ice nearby.

Emergency services were called to Invermay Road in Invermay around 11:30am on Thursday after reports a grey Mitsubishi Triton ute had hit a parked car.

When officers arrived, witnesses told them the driver had walked to the grounds of a nearby business shortly after the crash and appeared to try to hide a plastic bag, police said.

Police allege a search of the property found a bag containing around 200 grams of methylamphetamine.

Officers then searched the man’s vehicle and his home, seizing drugs including methylamphetamine, butanediol and two vials of testosterone.

The 38-year-old Invermay man has been charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and unlawfully possessing a digital blueprint for the manufacture of a firearm.

He also faces summary drug and firearms charges.

He was detained to appear in court.
